Local Author to Present Children鈥檚 Book at Black History Month Book Reading
Longmeadow, MA— When it comes to children’s literature, representation matters. With The National Center for Education reporting that by 2023, the majority (50.5 percent) of K–12 students will be Hispanic, African American, or Asian/Pacific Islander, it’s critical that all children see themselves in the pages of their favorite books.
In Crystal Senter-Brown’s newest book, AJ and the Magic Kite, AJ is teased at school about the color of his skin. He meets a new friend named Jerome, who uses a magic kite to show AJ how the world would be without some of the most important African-American inventions.
Children and families are encouraged to attend this free book reading. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Senter-Brown will be available after the reading for questions and commentary.
This free event, scheduled for February 12 at 7:00 p.m., is open to the public, and will be held at Hatch Learning Commons, 黑料视频 University, 539 Longmeadow Street, Longmeadow, MA. For more information or to register, please visit https://ajandthemagickite.eventbrite.com/.
